PROJECTFrancis Leenaerts

Belgian-based contemporary artist Francis Leenaerts was in Norway to work and develop new pieces.
His practice centres on material exploration, structure, and balance, with process driving form.

“Spending a month alone on a mountain in Norway gave me the space for silence, peace, and self-reflection. Surrounded by nature’s unpredictable atmosphere and constant growth, I was able to let my thoughts wander, reconnect with my creativity, and rediscover my inner strength. This experience affected me deeply and inspired me in ways I didn’t expect. It challenged me, allowed me to grow, and most importantly, made me feel fully present again.”

NOZON is a unique stainless steel object by Francis Leenaerts that performs a new “dance” each time.
It possesses its own personality and interacts with its surroundings through reflection, the high-quality, mirrored surface emphasizes detail while making the landscape part of the object’s visual presence.

During Francis Leenaerts’ working stay in Norway, Jan Opdekamp photographed NOZON objects within the Norwegian landscape.

The environment functioned as a setting that allowed the reflective surfaces to absorb, mirror, and reframe the natural scenery, bringing scale, contrast, and presence into focus.
